Welcome to Giinawind Public School

Us, Including You.

We are excited to introduce Giinawind Public School, a new learning community that opened its doors in Southeast Cambridge in September 2026. Giinawind PS will be a JK to Gr. 8 school, starting off as JK to Gr. 7 for the first year.  Located at 615 Wesley Blvd, Giinawind PS is more than just a new building, it is a groundbreaking partnership and a place where every student, staff and family member belongs.

A Path Shared Together

Giinawind PS represents a historic milestone as the first joint-use school in the Waterloo Region District School Board. We are proud to share our school facilities with Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary School. While we maintain our distinct identities, this partnership allows us to model collaboration, shared stewardship, and community spirit every single day.

The Meaning Behind Our Name

Our name was chosen through a community process, reflecting the values and vision of the people we serve. Giinawind (pronounced geen-ah-win) is an Anishinaabemowin word that translates to: “Us, Including You”. We feel honored to have been gifted the name for our new school! In the Anishinaabe language, there are different ways to say “we.” Giinawind is the inclusive version. It signals that our “we” is never complete without you, our students, our staff, our families, and our neighbors.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Giinawind Public School!
