Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at Giinawind Public School! School starts on Tuesday, September 8th. We are excited to meet all of our students and families!
Class Lists
On Monday, September 7th you will be able to find your child’s homeroom teacher using School-Day. Log into your account, click “Schools and Groups” on the blue left hand side menu, then click “Your Classes.” This will show the class your child is linked to in the form of 1A, 2/3A etc.
Once you have determined the homeroom, you can find the name of the homeroom teacher using this list:

If you do not use School-Day yet, teachers will have class lists available on the morning of the first day of school on our back field, to help determine your child’s class.
Please Note – Class lists may change up until the morning of Tuesday, September 8th due to ongoing registrations.
Our First Day Back
The first day of school this year is Tuesday, September 8th. Our school hours are 8:35-2:55. Nutrition Breaks are 10:35-11:15 am and 1:15-1:55 pm.
On the first day of school, from 8:20-8:35 students will come to the back of the school where teachers will help them find their homerooms. Kindergarten students will come to the Kindergarten area at the back of the school.
As this year is our opening day for the school, we will have a short welcome ceremony at the back of the school at 8:35.
Daily Morning Routines
Grade 1-7 students will come to the back of the school from 8:20-8:35 and will line up with their class. We ask that students arrive no earlier than 8:20 as there is no supervision prior to that time.
Kindergarten drop-off is 8:35 at the Kindergarten area at the back of the school.
Daily End of Day Routines
Grade 1-7 students are dismissed at the back of the school at 2:55.
If you have children in Kindergarten you can pick them up at the Kindergarten area from 2:45-2:55.
Parking Lot Drop off/Pick up
The driveway area and parking lot is strictly for staff vehicles and buses at the start and end of the day. If you are driving to pick up your student(s), please park on the street and walk up the side path to meet your student(s).
Bus Transportation
If you are a bus student, consult the STSWR website for transportation information. If you wish to opt-out of busing, please fill out the form at Student Transportation. Staff will meet the bus upon arrival and make sure your child gets to their class. If you are unsure if you are a bus student or not, check your Bus Eligibility here.
School Supplies
Families are asked to send minimal items, no toys please! Students will need: a backpack, indoor shoes, a refillable water bottle, a lunch bag with food for the day(cutlery if needed). School supplies expectations will be shared by individual teachers when school starts.
Meet the Staff Night
On Wednesday, September 23rd, 5:45-6:45 we are having our Meet the Staff Night. You are welcome to come and visit your student’s classroom, meet the staff and see our new school!
School Council
Our first School Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 30th, 6:00-7:30 at Giinawind PS. We welcome all members of the Giinawind PS school community to join us. As an advisory body, the school council provides a way for families to connect with other families, school staff and the school community. If this interests you, I encourage you to mark your calendar and come see what it’s all about!
